Are electric mopeds legal?
Yes. Wayel e-Mopeds bikes conform to all EU standards complete with Certificate of Conformity (CoC).
At what age can I ride an electric moped on public roads in Ireland?
W1/W2: from age 16 <=4kw/50cc equivalent).
W3 /NCE: from age 17 (<=11kw/125cc equivalent)
What license is required?
W1/W2: Licence required category AM or any other motorcycle category or / if you hold full B Car licence dated before 20th October 2006. W3/NCE: Licence required category A1 or any other motorcycle category or/ if you hold full B Car licence dated before 20th October 2006.
Do electric mopeds need road tax and number plates in Ireland?
Road Tax cost only €35 a year because of zero emissions. Number plates will need to display just like their petrol equivalents.
Do I need insurance to ride an electric moped in Ireland and do I need to wear a helmet?
Yes. Cheap insurance is available with providers like Axa Bike Care and Carol Nash. A helmet is required.
What are the running costs of an electric moped?
The cost of mains electricity to fully charge the battery is under €1. As electric mopeds do not have a combustion engine, the major element that requires maintenance does not exist. Therefore, maintenance essentially comes down to consumable items such as tyres and breaks, plus electrical items.
What range can I expect from a full charge of an electric moped and motorcycle?
This is a function of the power of the engine, the consumption of the battery and driving style. Typical range starts at about 60km to 100km. Two batteries will double the range.
How long does it take to charge the battery of an electric moped?
This depends on the model and if you are charging them from a domestic 13amp socket or a commercial charging station. However, Batteries take around 6 to 8 hours to fully charge. Also, most models offer removable batteries meaning they can be taken into offices, coffee shops etc to top up while out.
How can I tell how much charge is left in the battery of an electric moped?
A charge indicator on the display console provides a ‘fuel gauge’ view of the remaining battery charge.
Do electric mopeds or motorcycles need to be assembled?
Your electric scooter will arrive fully assembled, registered with number plates. You will need to tax and insure it.
Do electric mopeds need servicing and maintenance?
Electric mopeds have very low maintenance and servicing requirements as there is no petrol engine etc. Consumable items such as tyres, brake pads and discs will need maintenance as with petrol equivalent bikes.
Do electric mopeds and motorcycles have a warranty?
All Wayel electric mopeds come with 24 months warranty.
Where can I get spare parts and accessories for electric moped?
We can supply spare parts for our including replacement batteries and chargers. What accessories are available? Windshield, storage box and support plate for the storage box.
Can electric mopeds be used for delivery jobs?
Yes. Wayel e-Mopeds can be fitted with a “storage box” in the rear.
